first direct to sponsor the Grand Village & Grand Seminar Theatre at Grand Designs Live 2010

15 Apr 2010

first direct has been announced as the sponsors of this year's GRAND VILLAGE and GRAND Seminar Theatre at the forthcoming Grand Designs Live London show, from 1st - 9th May 2010, at London's ExCel Centre.

first direct , the UK's leading offset mortgage provider, will be the official sponsor of the GRAND VILLAGE section, for the second year running, at this year's Grand Designs Live, London. In addition to this first direct will also sponsor the Grand Seminar Theatre, the main stage for all talks, workshops and seminars, situated within the Grand Village.

The GRAND Village is the landmark area of the show, featuring a series of new build dwellings that showcase the very latest in building design.  Demonstrating how architects and designers alike are taking the steps to address the issue of sustainable living, pushing the boundaries of design and construction.

Visitors will be able to explore the latest conceptual, eco-friendly and sustainable structures on show. You can experience firsthand a fully functional eco-house, and see eco-technology in place with fully furnished show homes bringing you work-able solutions for sustainable living.

The GRAND Seminar Theatre sponsored by first direct will host a number of seminars which will cover inspirational debates on housing, sustainability, innovation and regeneration mixed with solid practical information for visitors who have their own projects in development.

first direct was the first bank to receive the Carbon Trust Standard after reducing its carbon emissions by over 14% from its 2007 levels resulting in an annual saving of £200,000 a year off its energy bills.

first direct will also have their own stand at the event, which will offer visitors the chance to come and learn more about their products and services through interactive Microsoft surface technology.

first direct will also be giving away Wattson Personal Home Energy Monitors to potential customers who have a mortgage agreement in principle offered to them as a result of visiting the stand this year as well as £100 off their mortgage arrangement fees. The Wattson is the ultimate consumer-driven energy monitor which can help consumers save up to 20% on household energy bills.

Natalie Cowen, Head of Brand for first direct commented on the sponsorship:  "We're delighted to once again be at Grand Designs Live.  Last year was our first time at the event and it was great to meet so many of our customers at the show and to be introduced to many news ones who came to our stand to play with the Microsoft Surface technology and learn more about our products.

"first direct has sustainability at the heart of its business and by being able to offer Wattson personal Home Energy Monitors to potential customers means we can encourage them to reduce their carbon footprint as well."

Nancy Baughen, Sponsorship Manager for Media 10, organizers of Grand Designs Live, added: "We very pleased that first direct is once again sponsoring the Grand Village, and our Seminar Theatre. They are a leading brand in the banking sector and have a great synergy with the show thanks to their eco credentials and consumer demographic. We are confident that their involvement with the GRAND Village and GRAND Seminar Theatre will make this section of the show the best yet."
