first direct moves mountains for Maggie’s

62 people from first direct took on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks to raise funds for charity partner, Maggie’s

On 20 May, a 62 strong team from first direct , took on 26 miles and the three largest peaks in Yorkshire as the bank continues to raise funds for cancer charity Maggie’s.

Maggie’sprovides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their family and friends. first direct chose Maggie’s as its national charity partner at the start of 2016, and since then has been really busy with a whole host of fund-raising events for Maggie’s as it seeks funding to build a new cancer support Centre in the grounds of St James University Hospital, Leeds.

The money raised from the team at first direct will go towards the £5 million needed to start building the new Centre, which, once completed, will provide support to anyone affected by cancer across Yorkshire. 

Joe Gordon, Head of first direct , said: “The first direct team and their friends and family went more than the proverbial extra mile for Maggie’s and it was an amazing effort from all of them. They experienced four seasons in one day but didn’t let this put them off raising thousands of pounds for Maggie’s. Our people are really throwing themselves into fund-raising activities and every little bit helps get us a little closer to making the new Centre in Leeds a reality.”

Ben Feely, Centre Fundraising Manager for Maggie’s Yorkshire, said: “I’m overwhelmed by the level of support we have seen from first direct . To have so many take part in such a tough challenge, shows just how passionate and committed they are to supporting Maggie’s Yorkshire. This gets us another big step towards opening the new Maggie’s Centre in Leeds.”

On Monday 9 November first direct's Leeds call centre customer representatives will add a new and magical aspect to their role.  They will start taking calls on the "Letters from Santa" order line, helping the NSPCC and Santa deliver the "Letters from Santa" campaign which runs until Wednesday 16 December.
