first direct launches next charity challenge with ChildLine - the first conversation appeal

first direct has announced its next partnership challenge with ChildLine. This will be to help the charity's ground-breaking Schools Service and raise funds to enable trained volunteers to visit every primary school in the UK by 2016. This follows first direct 's previous successful campaign with the charity, to raise money to help answer more calls from vulnerable children. 

ChildLine has identified that many primary school children are suffering abuse or neglect and whether it's due to lack of information or fear, they are waiting months and sometimes years, before contacting ChildLine. 

The ChildLine Schools Service was set up with the aim of reaching out to younger children, giving them the awareness they need to recognise abuse and seek help sooner. By helping children understand abuse, ChildLine hopes that children will have the knowledge and confidence to talk about what is happening to them.

first direct is looking to raise £250,000 for the ChildLine Schools Service in 2013, and to launch its 'first conversation' appeal it will be matching any donations made to the ChildLine Schools Service via this site www.nspcc.org.uk/firstconversation, up to a maximum of £50,000.

ChildLine is also looking to recruit volunteers to deliver the service in primary schools across the UK who will be to be trained to deliver the ChildLine Schools Service.

Mark Mullen, first direct 's Chief Executive commented: 'Our partnership with ChildLine has gone from strength to strength and we're now in our fourth year of supporting the charity having raised £4.7 million so far. 

'During this journey our focus has been on helping raise enough money to ensure as many calls as possible from vulnerable children are answered.  Now ChildLine are on their way to reaching their goal, we look forward to the new challenge of raising funds through our first conversation appeal.'

first direct is now in its fourth year of supporting ChildLine and has raised £4.7million to date, through campaigns and challenges involving not only people working at the bank, but also customers, friends and family.
