Paul Say asks Twitter to help with nominations for the Observer Food Monthly Awards

15 Jul 2010

As a sponsor of the Observer Food Monthly Awards first direct 's very own Head of Marketing, Paul Say, has been invited to sit on the judging panel.  As part of the judging team he is required to put forward a nomination for each of the following special judges' categories...

  • Best Producer - Rewards the best producer of food in the UK.  Previous winners have included individual farms, artisan butchers and bakers, so the winner could come from any area of culinary expertise - but they must produce something which is uniquely excellent in UK food.
  • Best Newcomer in Food and Drink - Rewards new arrivals in the 'foodie' world who have created an immediate buzz around their work.  The past winners have been restaurants or shops, though in principle there is no reason why an individual could not win the prize.
  • Outstanding Achievement - Rewards the establishment, organisation or individual which has made the greatest impact on the food world in the UK in the past year.
  • Young Chef of the Year (under 30) - Rewards a young chef who is doing exciting, innovative and outstanding work in their kitchen.  They do not have to be particularly well-known, but they should be demonstrating great skill and passion and they should be a head chef or similar who is showing great leadership and dynamism.

Now, as you might imagine, whilst Paul very much enjoys consuming food he is not immersed in the 'foodie' world.  He has a few ideas on who to put forward, but would really love your suggestions too.  He'll combine all your ideas with his own and choose one person for each category to be put before the judging panel.

To nominate please email with the subject line OFM Awards + category.

Remember to include:

  • Your name and connection to nominee (if any)
  • Name of nominee
  • Category you wish to nominate them for
  • If possible a website / contact details for your nominee so Paul can look them up
  • The reason why you think they should win

Paul needs to put his nominations forward on Monday 19 July 2010, so you've got until Monday morning to tell us who you think should win!
