Esther Rantzen thanks first direct for their support of ChildLine in 2010

14 Feb 2011

Sadly, due to the snow at the end of last year Esther Rantzen, President of ChildLine couldn't make it to first direct to congratulate our people, so she sent the following instead:

"I'd like to thank everyone at first direct for their extraordinary support for ChildLine throughout 2010. You've done so much for children this year - fundraising, volunteering and donating your skill and expertise.

first direct employees and customers have been incredibly generous, raising money for us in the office, at events and online. It hasn't only been gifts of money, volunteers have given their time at events, to answer Letter from Santa calls, and even paint our buildings.

I've had the pleasure of meeting several first direct employees who are now volunteer counsellors in Leeds and Glasgow, and am always impressed by their dedication. They are at the frontline for us, providing direct help to children who often have no one else to turn to. An especial thank you to them.

Behind the scenes first direct 's technical support is developing ChildLine so it is even better for children, ensuring that we do things as efficiently as we can. They are helping our counsellors feel valued and valuable so that they can continue to work so hard for children and young people.

It's important to remember that through your support for ChildLine first direct are saving lives every single day. Typically every day eight children call ChildLine with suicidal thoughts. I dread to think about what would happen if ChildLine wasn't there for them.

It is rare to come across a company that so understands what ChildLine does and is determined to help us be there for more children. Thank you."

Thank you Esther!
